Today I am going to write a story about the painting “A Family Tree” by Norman Rockwell. It depicts the history of an American family and it includes relatives, which came from different places, looked alike, had different professions.
The first ancestors, which we can see on the picture, were a pirate and a Swedish princess. When Jack came to Sweden to rob the rich citizens of it, he run into the king Harry and saw his daughter and that’s when Jack fell in love with the princess. Undoubtedly, the king was against their marriage as he did not want his son-in-law to be a pirate. However, Jack decided that he would do whatever it takes to marry Adelle as their feelings were mutual. His plan was to escape with her and the other pirates agreed to help him. All in all, their plan worked. Jack and Adelle got married on a pirate ship. Their son Joe Taylor was born a year after marriage.
As Joe grew up with pirates it’s easy to find out what was his profession. He takes after his father in character. Joe was self-confident, short-tempered and cunning. As for Joe’s appearance, he looked like his mother. He had dark hair and big eyes just like her. Joe had only one dream which was to become a pirate captain. He was ready to kill people and rob for the rest of his life until one thing happened. On the island, he saw an aristocratic woman of his age, whose name was Elizabeth, and fell in love with her. Their feelings were mutual so they got married in a month and then went to the other places on a pirate ship. Soon they had a child. It was a son and they named him Jack in honor of his grandfather.
The fact that Jack had the name, which had his grandfather, didn’t mean they were alike. Jack was as kind and polite as his mother and grandmother. He didn’t follow his grandfather’s and father’s footsteps so he was an aristocrat, not a pirate. However, he looked like his dad as he had the same nose and the same smile. He was in love with Mary, a daughter of his mother’s friend, and it turned out that the girl fell in love with him too after they had met each other. Jack proposed her and they got married in 3 months. Their wedding was really big as it means a lot to aristocrats. Mary gave a birth to their son, which name was David, in 10 months.
Unfortunately, Jack and Mary were busy parents so they didn’t pay much attention to David, who was a really smart child, just like both of his parents. The only person, who was always here to support him, was his governess. The woman always treated him kindly and David appreciated that. As they were that close, he also knew his governess’ elder daughter, whose name was Dakota. When he grew up, he decided that he wanted to become a prosecutor. Undoubtedly, his parents approved his decision, but not because they were proud of his son, but because that was an appropriate profession for aristocrats. Many years passed after he saw his governess for the last time. However, on his way to the job he saw Dakota by a chance. He was surprised because they hadn’t seen each other for a long time and after that had happened, they both realized that they had been in love with each other since 15 years, so they started dating and then they got married. They had two children, whose names were Christopher and Richard.
In spite of the fact that Christopher and Richard looked alike, they had absolutely different personalities and the professions, which were chosen by them, proved that. Christopher became a soldier as he was ready to sacrifice his life to save others’. As for Richard, he was a pirate as his great-great-grandfather so his life was connected with crime. However, they married to best friends. One of the women, Laura was a doctor, and the other one, Angeline, was a famous writer. They hadn’t a big wedding but that didn’t change the strong connection between them. Both pairs had been married for more than 50 years. In a year after marriage Christopher and Laura had a son, whose name was John. As for Richard and Angeline, the woman gave a birth to a girl Alice in 8 month after they got married.
The cousins were not as close as they could be. John and Alice didn’t share each others’ interests and that’s why they saw each other rarely. John, a cruel pirate, even learnt about Lucas, a Puritan, who was Alice’s husband, when they had a son, Steven. In spite of the fact that John was irritable and short-tempered person, he wanted to become closer to his immediate family so he introduced his girlfriend, Venona, who was a native American, to Alice and Lucas and his cousin appreciated that gesture. Soon, John and Venona had a son, William.
William and Steven looked alike though they were not siblings. They both had dark hair and brown eyes. They even shared each other’s interests. They were ranchers and had a farm and a lot of animals there. Their spouses, Juliette and Kelly, were home makers. Soon William and Juliette had a child, whose name was Dillan. He got married to Chloe, the daughter of Steven and Kelly. The spouses had a child, Brian.
Now Brian is 10 years old. He lives in New York City and attends “Leman Manhattan Preparatory School”. He is a whiz-kid. He is as sporty as his dad. Brian is keen on playing football so he grabs at every opportunity to play it. He takes part in every football competition and wins medals as he is the best player in his team. He is also interested in learning new information about his ancestors.
“A Family Tree” is really big as it includes more than 20 relatives. However, I enjoyed writing about the history of the American family.
